Tell Your Representatives
We all have a basic right to an economy where everyone who is able and willing to work can work, where all jobs pay a family-supporting wage or better, and where work of every kind is respected and valued. Today that right is being trampled. And getting a job will require standing up for your right to work.
In today's economy, getting a job isn't just a matter of keeping your skills sharp or job-hunting with a smart strategy and a positive attitude. All that is good. But the fact is, there aren't enough jobs anymore. In Minnesota there are 200,000 jobseekers competing for 41,000 job openings, according to the latest figures from the Department of Employment and Economic Development.
What can be done? Fortunately, creating more jobs with better wages is no mystery. Economists know how jobs that support families historically have been generated and how we can generate these jobs now and into the future. But to make it happen, we have to get policymakers to listen to us—our government representatives at the local, state, and federal level. How do we make them listen? By telling them what we need again and again. By never shutting up. By standing up for our rights as Americans and Minnesotans. Tell your reps!

- During uncertain economic times, a new wage subsidy program based on MEED can reduce the risk of expansion for employers and provide skills and experience for disadvantaged workers. See our Wage Subsidy Policy Brief.
